NIBE-FUTO Linkage Programme in Biomedical Technology

The Nigerian Institute for Biomedical Engineering (NIBE) in partnership with the Federal University of Technology, Owerri signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing the NIBE-FUTO Linkage Programme in Biomedical Engineering Technology. The programme is a special training programme for members of NIBE, who are professionally qualified and desire to improve their educational status. This is in line with the objectives of NIBE to prepare individuals in their chosen careers and/or to enable them make for changes in their careers.

The programme consists of Professional Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Biomedical Engineering Technology programme leading to the award of Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Biomedical Engineering Technology of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri. It is meant to equip individuals to meet the professional/career demands of their practice and/or to prepare them for further postgraduate studies in biomedical engineering and allied fields.

Programme Philosophy

The programme philosophy is to produce graduates who effectively combine the knowledge of biology and medicine with those of engineering and physical sciences to design and fabricate devices; and solve problems in biology, medicine, healthcare as well as safety-related endeavours.

Programme Objectives

The Objectives of the programme include, among others:

  • To develop human resources in various aspects of biomedical engineering technology, whether as improvement of individual’s proficiency or as making for changes in his/her career
  • To produce quality biomedical engineering/technology professionals that can practice widely across the globe
  • To afford participants the opportunity for further postgraduate studies in biomedical engineering technology and allied fields where deficiencies exist.

Mode of Instruction

The programme takes the form of Open and Distance Learning (ODL). So the mode of instructions includes:

  • Self-instructional printed/electronic course material packages in modules
  • Online tutorials by assigned tutors
  • Face-to-face interaction with course tutors and academic supervisors at least once every semester.
